Links

There are many food blogs and food-related websites I like to read. Here’s my ever-growing list with links to the sites and why I read them:

101 Cookbooks by Heidi Swanson

Heidi Swanson began blogging because of her love of collecting cookbooks, cooking and photography. I have more than 100 cookbooks myself and can’t resist buying new ones to read and fill with sticky notes on what I must go back and cook, so I really identify with her. The site is beautifully photographed and written. Heidi focuses primarily on natural, whole foods and ingredients. She has lots of healthy-focused recipes.

David Lebovitz by David Lebovitz

David Lebovitz is an acclaimed pastry chef, cookbook author and teacher. David has been living in Paris since 2002 (sigh, I love Paris and can’t wait to go back). I’m looking forward to his next book, Ready for Dessert, which is planned for release in April 2010. His book on ice cream and sorbets, The Perfect Scoop, is fantastic! If you like to make homemade ice cream and don’t have this book I’m sure you’ll love it.

La Tartine Gourmande by Beatrice Peltre

Béa Peltre is a French expatriate living in Boston. As her site says,  she is obsessed with cooking, eating, sampling new ingredients, styling and photographing food. My kind of girl! We met Bea at a 2007 Hollywood food styling workshop taught by the talented and crazy Denise Vivaldo and Cindie Flannigan of Food Fanatics. Her photography is beautiful.

Food Fanatics Unwashed by Denise Vivaldo and Cindie Flannigan

I first met Denise at a Personal Chef conference in 2006. Her depth of knowledge and experience in food styling and catering are unsurpassed. And you can’t but help love her wild and colorful personality.  I was excited to learn that she was a west-coaster based in Los Angeles offering workshops in food styling (when she isn’t traveling the globe doing food styling for major clients). I took the Culinary Entrepreneurship workshop co-taught by Cindie in the fall of 2006 and got introduced to the world of food styling and food photography. Denise is also an author and lecturer. Cindie has been styling, designing, and teaching with Food Fanatics since 2001. She is very talented and fun to work with.

Orangette by Molly Wizenberg

This is the first food blog I ever read and the one that introduced me to the world of food blogging. Orangette is highly acclaimed and widely known. I love Molly’s monthly column in Bon Appetit Magazine and always turn to it first when my issue arrives. She has a wonderful way of writing and is an inspiration to me, a fledgling food blogger. She is also the author of A Homemade Life.

Matt Bites by Matt Armendariz

Matt Armendariz does it all! This multi-talented guy is a photographer, chef, writer, teacher and food blogger based in Southern California, so I have to read his blog. He has been recognized by many publications, editors and writers. Another interesting and inspirational site. His photographs are absolutely beautiful and he’s fun to read. Also great is his partner Adam Pearson, a fantistic and talented food stylist. The dynamic duo!

Pressure Cooking with Lorna Sass By Lorna Sass

The Queen of Pressure Cooking, Lorna Sass, has two blogs. Right now I’m enjoying the blog “at large” as she has been in Hawaii. Lorna is a cookbook author, recipe developer and spokesperson. She is the first author I turn to for pressure cooker recipes. The cheesecake recipe on my blog is from her cookbook Cooking Under Pressure. Great book if you have a pressure cooker.

The Epi-log on the Epicurious website

Epicurious is an incredible resource for recipes and information. There are thousands upon thousands of recipes from Bon Appetit Magazine and the now defunct Gourmet Magazine. I’m enjoying reading their blog as well. It’s a site that I turn to over and over again for research, inspiration and information. Go to /articlesguides/blogs/editor to navigate to the blog.

In The Kitchen and on the Road with Dorie by Dorie Greenspan

I really enjoy the travel aspects of Dorie’s blog, especially her Paris page. We love to travel in France (especially Paris, Provence and Burgundy) so I am always drawn to sites that write about Paris. Dorie is a fantastc baker, author and James Beard book award winner, so you know she is good!  She has pages on New York and Connecticut as well. Her recipe section has lots of great recipes for sweets and desserts, but savory options as well for soups, salads and main courses.

The Green Nut Site – Pistachios

This site is dedicated to the wonderful green nut – pistachios! Not only do I love pistachios, my husband’s family owns pistachio orchards in the San Joaquin Valley of California.
