What an exciting weekend! I was selected to participate in the Sears Chef Challenge representing the Los Angeles area. Saturday May 8th was the kickoff event.The Sears Chef Challenge is taking place in four major cities across the U.S. – Los Angeles, Washington DC, New York and Chicago. There are twelve chefs, three per city, competing to win money for our favorite food related charities.

Sun-Dried Tomato Basil Pesto
Posted by: | CommentsI was recently talking with friend and photographer Ron Goldman about another one of his passions - growing tomatoes, herbs and baby lettuces in his huge greenhouse. Ron has been growing heirloom tomatoes and other varieties, from cherry to beefsteak, for some 21 years. This man knows tomatoes! The lucky consumers are restaurants and farmers markets in the Washington state area. He was kind enough to share his recipe for Sun-Dried Tomato Basil Pesto. It’s earthy, rich and versatile.

Easy, Tasty Hummus
Posted by: | CommentsWe spent last weekend visiting family and friends in beautiful Colorado. It was so nice to escape the heat of Southern California. As I can’t stay out of anyone’s kitchen, I volunteered to make Saturday dinner. We were shopping at Whole Foods in Fort Collins, picking up ingredients for lasagna. Cruising down the aisle I spied cans of garbanzo beans (also called chickpeas) just asking to be taken home. We needed a snack before tackling lasagna, so those useful cans of garbanzo beans became a quick and tasty batch of hummus.
